Cat Powell is a mixed-media artist, producer, and creative director based in New York. She has over 15 years of industry experience producing large-scale visual art installations in high visibility locations such as Times Square, ComplexCon, The Other Art Fair, LACMA, The Museum of the Moving Image, The MTA, and LinkNYC among others.

Cat’s work has earned her multiple awards including an OBIE Gold Craft Award in Digital Design for producing the dynamic “GIFs of Time” experience around New York City, as well as an ADC Bronze Cube for her role as a producer and art director of the experimental animated book, Frame By Frame.

During her 9 year tenure at GIPHY, Cat produced hundreds of animated shorts, many of which toured festival circuits and won awards around the world. She is a thoughtful and confident community builder, who brought thousands of artists and animators together while managing the digital artist network GIPHY Arts. At GIPHY Arts, she hustled to connect artists in the community with as many paid opportunities as possible while also hosting frequent speaker and art events in New York City and Los Angeles.

As an artist, Cat is fascinated by human behavior and what our faces and body language fail to conceal. Her work is tactile and often highly saturated, and is largely informed by the current season of her life — existing at the frantic and whimsical intersection of being a working artist and mother of two very young children. She is inspired by vintage circus ephemera, anonymous family photographs, and mid-century experimental animation.
